Robert Bauer (clergyman)

Robert Bauer (born September 11, 1904 in Landau an der Isar ; † July 15, 2001 in Altötting ) was a German episcopal administrator of the Holy Chapel, priest, writer and honorary citizen of Altötting .

Life

Robert Bauer was born on September 11, 1904, the seventh of eight children in Landau an der Isar. His family moved to Altötting in 1910 and started their own grocer's there. He first attended elementary school, then later the grammar schools in Burghausen and Passau, where he also graduated from high school in 1925. The gifted student then studied for a semester at the philosophical-theological college in Passau . From autumn 1925 he continued his studies at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome and graduated with a two-time doctorate in philosophy and theology .

In Rome he was ordained a priest in 1931 and then took up service as a cooperator in Bad Höhenstadt and Obernzell . On January 1, 1933, the Passau University appointed him Subregens at the Passau seminary . During the difficult time for the church around 1936, he accepted the office of cathedral vicar in addition to his duties as sub- rain . In 1945 he was appointed lecturer at the philosophical-theological college. This office expanded when he was appointed seminary director a year later. He held this office for ten years. His time at the University of Passau initially ended when he became the Episcopal Administrator of the Holy Chapel in 1956 , because from 1964 he was again an honorary professor at the university. He also was 1965 Episcopal clergyman Council , took over in 1966 the Office of the pin dean at St. Rupertus pen , in 1967 Pontifical honor prelate and 1971 honorary citizen of Altoetting. In 1985 he was appointed Apostolic Protonotary and received the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class .

He officially retired on December 31, 1991, but continued to serve in the church and community until his death on July 15, 2001 at the age of 96. He was buried on July 19, 2001 in the Canonical Crypt in the Sebastiani Chapel in Altötting.

Act

Bauer campaigned for many different areas in the community, pilgrimage and church. Below is a list of some of his activities in Altötting.

  • Procurement of land for schools, indoor swimming pools and sports fields
  • Guardian of the Marian shrine in Altötting
  • History researcher for the pilgrimage and the town of Altötting
  • Restoration of the treasury and votive tablets in the Chapel of Mercy
  • Order of the collective
  • Restoration of the Chapel of Mercy and construction of the bell tower
  • Promotion of Altötting church music
  • Scientific and literary work

Highlights of his church life were:

  • Visit of Pope John Paul II to the Bavarian Marian Shrine in November 1980
  • 500th anniversary year of the Altötting pilgrimage in 1989
