Robert Adame Beltran (born November 19, 1953 in Bakersfield , California ) is an American actor of Mexican descent.

Life

Robert Beltran graduated from California State University, Fresno . He grew up with two sisters and seven brothers. He became known worldwide in the television series Star Trek: Spaceship Voyager as Commander Chakotay .

Beltran was educated at Fresno State College, where he received a degree in theater arts. In 1981 he got the first film role in Zoot Suit and was then seen in various other films, such as Gaby - A true story (1987), Kiss me a Killer - Tödliche Desierde (1991), Bugsy (1991) or Nixon - The Fall of a President (1995). In addition to his work in film, he is also active in the theater and founded the East LA Classic Theater Group .

Beltran was nominated for several awards and won the 1997 Nosotros Golden Eagle Award for "Best Actor in a TV Series". The Nosotros Society promotes Spanish-speaking artists.
