Robert Garrett (born March 18, 1977 in Ochsenfurt , Bavaria ) is a former German basketball player . With the German national team , he was Vice-European Champion in 2005 . At club level, he won three German championship titles.

At 193 cm tall, Garrett played the position of shooting guard . He was known for his athletic and powerful style of play throughout his career.

Career

Garrett, the son of a German mother and an American father, first played in his hometown of Ochsenfurt and then for SpVgg Rattelsdorf . With DJK Würzburg he rose to the side of Dirk Nowitzki and Demond Greene in 1998 in the basketball league . In Würzburg he was one of Holger Geschwindner's students .

In 2002 he moved within the Bundesliga to the Opel Skyliners Frankfurt , with whom he became German champion in 2004 and then went abroad. He played for the Italian clubs Pompea Napoli and Teramo , then returned to Germany in 2005. From June 2005 to 2010 he played for Brose Baskets Bamberg . In 2007 he became Bamberg Champion - his second championship title. On June 20, 2010, after winning the championship again, it became known that the expiring contract with Bamberg will not be extended and Garrett is leaving the club. On October 15, 2010, he then accepted an offer from FC Bayern Munich in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA . There he met his former teammates Robert Maras , Steffen Hamann and Demond Greene . He won the ProA championship title with FCB and then ended his playing career.

National team

In November 1999 Garrett made his debut for the German national team. Garrett was part of the German squad for the 2006 World Cup as well as for the European Championship tournaments in 2001, 2005 (winning the silver medal) and 2007. In August 2008, he took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing, for which Germany won third place in the qualifying tournament Athens qualified. In June 2009, around eight months after his last appearance in the DBB jersey, Garrett announced his retirement from the German national basketball team. He played a total of 118 full internationals.
