Robert Heinz (1970 as trainer from AZ'67)

Robert Heinz (* 1918 or around 1924; † 1972) was a German football player and coach . For nine years he was the selection coach of the Luxembourg national team , and for two years he was in charge of the Dutch honorary division AZ'67 .

life and career

Heinz was active as a player for a club in Koblenz and in the selection of the Rhineland . A double broken leg ended his career. As a coach he was at the Rhineland Football Association ; from there he was seconded to VfL Trier , which he led from the amateur league Rhineland into (semi) professional football - the 2nd Southwest Division . In the 1959/60 season he was in charge of local rivals Eintracht Trier .

Heinz then worked for the Luxembourg Football Association for nine years . As national coach, he supervised the Luxembourg selection in 64 games until 1969, including qualifying for the 1964 European Championship , in which the "tactically [...] experienced coach" eliminated the favorite Netherlands with the outsider ; The return leg was played in Amsterdam and Rotterdam because the Luxembourgers had sold their home rights.

In June 1969 the father of three signed a two-year contract with AZ'67 from Alkmaar ; the newcomer had just saved himself from relegation from the first division. Although Robert Heinz AZ'67 was able to lead to twelfth place in the following season , the 1970/71 season was unfortunate; AZ'67 was already looking for a successor for Heinz in spring 1971, who left Alkmaar in April. "I was ruined here," he said to the Alkmaarsche Courant . Cor van der Hart eventually succeeded him.

Robert Heinz, who was undergoing cardiac treatment, died a good year after his discharge from AZ'67.
