Luc Holtz (born June 14, 1969 in Luxembourg City ) is a former Luxembourg soccer player and today's soccer coach .
Career
society
Luc Holtz began playing football in the youth department of Etzella Ettelbrück . In 1986 he came to the club's first team. After three years he ventured abroad and then went to the then French second division club FC Montceau . After only one year of relegation, he went back to Luxembourg. He found a new club with the Red Boys from Differdange , where it only lasted two years, before moving to FC Avenir Beggen . With the club from Beggen Holtz won the Luxembourg Championship and the Luxembourg Cup in 1993 and 1994. In 1993 he was elected Footballer of the Year in Luxembourg . In 1998 he went back to his home club Etzella. With Etzella Ettelbrück he won the Luxembourg Cup in 2001. During the winter break of the 2007/08 season, Holtz ended his career at the age of 38.
National team
Luc Holtz made 54 international matches for Luxembourg from 1991 to 2002 . A qualification for the European soccer championship or a soccer world championship was denied to him.
Career as a coach
Parallel to his time as a player, Holtz was also a coach at Etzella Ettelbrück from 1999 to 2008. He gave up this post on June 30, 2008 in order to fill the post of head coach for the U-21 national team of Luxembourg one day later . When Holtz took over the office, there was little chance of participating in the 2009 U-21 European Football Championship . You finished the qualification as bottom of the group. In qualifying for the U-21 European Football Championship 2011 , things should go a little better. However, the qualification was missed. On August 3, 2010, Holtz took over the post of coach for the senior national team of Luxembourg for a short time . Just fifteen days later, he was named the new head coach. On June 2, 2019, he used his own son Kevin Holtz in the national team for the first time in the friendly against Madagascar (3: 3) .
