Manuel Cardoni (born September 22, 1972 ) is a former Luxembourg soccer player who currently works as a coach. During his professional career, he also played in the Bundesliga for Bayer 04 Leverkusen .
Career
society
Cardoni began his professional career in 1990 with US Rumelange , where he was under contract for two years until he joined Jeunesse Esch in 1992 . There he became a regular player and played 93 games between 1992 and 1996, scoring 30 goals. With Jeunesse Esch he also won the national division in 1995 and 1996. In these two years he was also footballer of the year in Luxembourg . In 1996 he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga . He was the third player from Luxembourg in the Bundesliga after Nico Braun and Robert Langers . However, he only played one game in two years.
In 1998 he returned to Jeunesse Esch and won the Luxembourg championship again in 1999 and 2004. In addition, he won the Coupe de Luxembourg twice in 1999 and 2000, as well as being named Luxembourg's Footballer of the Year in the same years.
In 2006 he moved to his first professional club US Rumelange , where he then acted as a player-coach. In 2008 he ended his active football career.
National team
Cardoni made his national team debut in 1993 in the World Cup qualifier against Iceland . In the course of his career he played 44 qualifying matches for world and European championships. He played his last international match in 2004 in the World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein . In the national team, he came to 68 games and five goals.
Trainer
After he ended his playing career at US Rumelange in 2008, he became assistant manager. Before that, he was player-coach at his club from 2006 to 2008. From 2010 to 2012 he took over the post of head coach again. Since 2014 he has been the coach of the Luxembourg U-19 national team and assistant coach of the Luxembourg U-21 national team .

Manuel Cardoni is the son of Furio Cardoni , one of the best Luxembourg players in the 70s.
