Marc Birsens (born September 17, 1966 in Luxembourg ) is a former Luxembourg football player .

Career

Birsens began his career in his hometown with Union Luxemburg , where he played from 1985 to 1996. After a one-year interlude at CS Grevenmacher , he returned to his parent club in 1997. In 2000 he moved to US Rümelingen , where he ended his playing career in the top Luxembourg division in 2002. Marc Birsens played a total of 331 games in the national division . There are also 18 appearances in the European Cup (Union 16, Grevenmacher 2).

In 1991 he was voted Footballer of the Year in Luxembourg .

National team

On August 27, 1988, Marc Birsens made his debut in the Luxembourg national team when he came on in the 66th minute in the friendly against Italy (3-0).

He played a total of 53 international matches. He scored his only goal on June 9, 1999 in the European Championship qualifier against Poland (2: 3).

Trainer

From 2011 to 2012, Marc Birsens coached the Luxembourg U-17 national team . For the 2015/16 season he signed a contract as head coach with US Rumelings , but resigned in January 2016 for personal reasons. In spring 2019 it was announced that Birsens had been hired by Jeunesse Junglinster as assistant coach for the 2019/20 season .
