The US Rumelange (lëtzebuergesch US Rëmeleng , German US Rümelingen ) is a football club from the Luxembourg town of Rümelingen .

history

The association was founded on October 1st, 1907 under its current name. During the German occupation in World War II from 1940, the association was called FV Rümelingen . In 1944 it was renamed US Rumelange .

In the 1960s and 1970s, the club participated twice in the European Cup Winners' Cup and twice in the UEFA Cup .

In the 2008/09 season Rümelingen took 12th place in the BGL Ligue as a climber , which is why the club had to compete in a barrack game against the 3rd of the honorary doctorate , FC 72 Erpeldingen . Since he won this barrage game 2-0, the club secured relegation.

In the 2009/10 season, Rümelingen went straight to the honorary doctorate as 13th. After the immediate promotion to the BGL Ligue as second place in the honorary doctorate, relegation followed at the end of the 2011/12 season .

In the 2012/2013 season, they managed to return directly to the national division with a second place. Despite relegation, coach Sébastien Alliéri was sacked at the end of the 2013/14 season. A few days later, Carlo Weis is signed as coach. For the 2015/16 season, Carlo Weis switched to league rival Jeunesse Esch . Marc Birsens took over the position of head coach . Birsens resigned in February 2016 for personal reasons. Assistant coach Christian Joachim became his successor.

After the relegation to the honorary doctorate was confirmed in the 2016/17 season, the new coach Sven Lorscheider led the team to direct promotion back to the BGL Ligue . After the 7-0 defeat at Fola Esch on matchday 20 of the 2018/19 season , Lorscheider resigned from his position. By the end of the season, club president Gérard Jeitz took over the coaching post for the third time since 1992, but could not avert relegation.
