Jean "Johny" Léonard (born October 3, 1941 in Bonneweg-Süd ) is a former Luxembourg soccer player .

Career

Léonard began his playing career in 1962 with Union Luxemburg . With the capital club he won the Coupe de Luxembourg twice . In the 2-1 in the 1963 final against Spora Luxemburg , he scored a goal to make it 2-0. He was also the top scorer in the national division three times in a row .

In 1967 he moved to the then promoted team in the French division 1 , FC Metz , for which he played until 1969. He then went to the Belgian first division club ARA La Gantoise . There he was sixth in the scorers list in his first season. With the team from East Flanders , he was relegated to the 2nd division in 1971 .

From 1972 was active for the Lorraine club FC Thionville . In 1976 he returned to Union Luxemburg, where he ended his active career after one season.

National team

Between 1962 and 1970, Léonard completed 32 international matches for the Luxembourg national team , in which he scored eight goals. He played his first game on November 11, 1962 in a friendly against the Netherlands , which ended in a 2-6 defeat for the Luxembourgers. His last job was on November 15, 1970, when he lost 5-0 in the European Championship qualifier against the GDR .
