St. Jakob am Sand
St. Jakob am Sand (also St. Jakob im Sand ) is a South Tyrolean high mediaeval church in Gries , a district of Bozen . The church is located in the elevated valley edge on the Guntschnaberg at an altitude of 500 m slm
The church is first documented in an inventory of the wealthy Premonstratensian monastery of Schäftlarn from around 1200 as "sanctus Iacobus in Arena" . The granting of an indulgence is attested to in 1386 . In the district court code of Gries-Bozen from 1487, Hanns ab Platten , Nickl Gúrr and Jacob Sagmaister appear to be their own district captains "in the Sandt" , who also function as the sovereign tax collectors. In terms of the church, St. Jakob was part of the old Gries parish district , as was the determination of the situation "in the Sante plebis de Chelre"from the year 1335 ( Keller was the old name of Gries).
The barrel-vaulted nave with hall and apse was raised in the 14th century and provided with a polygonal choir closure on the outside . The tower has biforic and triforic windows, and its pointed helmet is covered with green glass tiles. In the apse , on the triumphal arch and on the wall are frescoes from the beginning of the 14th century ( Majestas Domini with symbols of the evangelists, row of apostles).
From the years 1598 to 1807, 80 account books of St. Jakob im Sand in the Bolzano City Archives (Hss. 1091, 1171–1250), which were kept by the respective parish priests .
The church was listed as a historical monument in 1977 .
