Robert Janssen

Robert HC Janssen (born May 22, 1931 in Delft ; † March 23, 2019 in Oegstgeest ) was a Dutch clinical psychologist and Indologist .

Act

Robert Janssen was a full professor of clinical psychology and personality psychology at the Free University of Amsterdam . He published numerous writings on topics of psychotherapy, in which he also went into the relationship of Buddhist philosophy to psychological and therapeutic problems. After his retirement he studied Indology at the University of Leiden . After completing his studies, he undertook together with the Indologist Jan de Breet to translate the Pali canon into the Dutch language. For this translation work Robert Janssen was appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau by Queen Beatrix (Netherlands) .

Based on the findings of Mircea Eliade , Janssen also made contributions to the understanding of the inner relationships between shamanism, yoga and Buddhism.

Robert Janssen was a student of Lama Anagarika Govinda , who appointed him head of his order Arya Maitreya Mandala in the Netherlands.
