Robert John Fleming, Jr. (born January 13, 1913 in Fort Robinson , Nebraska , † July 14, 1984 ) was an American engineer , officer in the US Army Corps of Engineers and from 1962 to 1967 the last governor of the Panama Canal Zone .

Life

Fleming joined the US Army after school and became an officer in 1928 after graduating from the US Military Academy at West Point . He later studied at the US Army Engineer School , graduated in 1935 and then served in the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). After the United States entered World War II , he took part in the Pacific War.
