Robert Kleyenstüber

Robert Kleyenstüber (* 1813 in Königsberg (Prussia) ; † 1884 there ) was a German shipowner in Königsberg.

Life

After completing a commercial apprenticeship, Kleyenstüber opened a commissioning and shipping business in Königsberg in 1838. In 1844 he was sworn in as a ship broker . In 1863 he converted his respected company into a general partnership , the second owner of which was his son-in-law August Preuss . After he took over the chartering of ships to England and Holland , he put the first screw steamer "Borussia" into service in 1862 and expanded the tour route to Kiel , Hamburg and Bremen .

In 1866 he founded the association for the rescue of shipwrecked people. Many years after his death, the lifeboat stationed in Pillau was named "Konsul Kleyenstüber" .

To go Appointed Kommerzienrat and Admiraltyrat , Kleyenstüber was elected head of the Königsberg merchant class in 1874. The shipping company was continued by his heirs until 1939.
