Robert Orr junior

Robert Orr Jr. (born March 5, 1786 in Hannastown , Westmoreland County , Pennsylvania , †  May 22, 1876 in Kittanning , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1825 and 1829 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Orr moved to Armstrong County with his parents when he was still young . The family later settled in the local town of Kittanning. He attended the public schools in his respective homeland. In 1805 he was Deputy Sheriff in Armstrong County. Otherwise he studied land surveying. Eventually he became deputy head of the district land survey. During the British-American War of 1812 he served in the American armed forces, in which he rose to the rank of colonel. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party . Between 1817 and 1820 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania ; from 1821 to 1826 he was a member of the State Senate . In the 1820s he joined the movement around the future President Andrew Jackson .

After the resignation of MP James Allison , Orr was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on October 11, 1825. After re-election, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1829 . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Robert Orr devoted himself to the military. There he achieved the rank of general. He died on May 22, 1879 in Kittanning at the age of 90.
