Robert Riegler

Robert Riegler (born November 6, 1963 in Kapfenberg , Styria ) is an Austrian bass player and composer .

Live and act

After studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz , he moved to Vienna in 1986. During his long-term collaboration with the trumpeter Karl Fian , in 1988 he provided the compositions for his album "Fian". In 1988 he played in a duo with Werner Pirchner , and with Harry Pepl in the band Airmail. He formed the Bob R. Band and began experimenting with his own compositions. As a sideman he worked with the singer Timna Brauer and the funk band Ostinato .

He concentrated intensively on the music of JSBach and recorded the album "Anima" in 1997. In the same year he became a member of the Vienna Art Orchestra , in which he stayed until 2003, and founded the formation "bass doublings". In the following years he played with Don Alias , Victor Lewis , Billy Jenkins , David Gilmore , Andy Sheppard , Harry Pepl , Michel Portal , Wolfgang Puschnig , Bobby Previte , Albert Mangelsdorff , Harri Stojka , Wolfgang Muthspiel , Joseph Bowie and Cindy Blackman .

In 2003 he finished his bass book "Das Vierbundsystem". He became a lecturer at the Tyrolean State Conservatory and at the Vienna Music Institute . In 2004 he put his solo pieces on paper and played in Rebekka Bakken's band . In October 2005 he was the only European finalist of the 1st International Solo Bass Competition in Myrtle Beach, where he was to appear with jurors Victor Wooten , Anthony Jackson and Steve Bailey . Due to a strike by the Air France airline, he missed his appearance and received fourth prize out of competition. Since 2012 he has also been working at the Art University Graz .
