Steve Bailey (born February 10, 1960 in Myrtle Beach , South Carolina ) is an American electric bassist .

Steve Bailey is known for his virtuoso mastery of the six-string fretless electric bass, especially with the use of flageolet tones . Musically, he is at home in fusion and jazz rock . He gained popularity within the bassist community through teaching at BIT and teaching videos with Victor Wooten . Steve Bailey is a sought-after studio musician. He played on albums by Kitaro , Kilauea, Harry Sheppard , David Benoit , Jethro Tull and Steve Reid , was a member of the Rippingtons and was one of the tour bands of greats such as Dizzy Gillespie , Willie Nelson and Larry Carlton .

For years he has been an advertising medium for the guitar manufacturer Aria and plays a six-string, fretless model from this company, designed according to his ideas. He is also one of the endorsers of the Warwick company and plays the Warwick Steve Bailey Signature Bass, among others.
