Harry Sheppard

Harry Sheppard (born April 1, 1928 in Worcester , Massachusetts ) is an American jazz musician ( vibraphone , also drums ).

Live and act

Sheppard, who grew up in his birthplace and is self-taught on his instrument , played vibraphone in New Jersey in 1955 with Mickey Sheen's Swing Travelers , with which the first recordings were made ( Have Swing Will Travel , with Sonny Russo , Marty Napoleon ). In the following years he moved to New York City, where he worked with Sol Yaged , Chubby Jackson , Cozy Cole, and Stan Rubin . Sheppard appeared frequently on the TV show Art Ford's Jazz Party in 1958 , where he accompanied jazz greats such as Buck Clayton , Coleman Hawkins , Billie Holiday , Rex Stewart , Cootie Williams and Lester Young . In the early 1960s he was a member of the Benny Goodman Sextet and the Mike Bryan Sextet, with whom he also made guest appearances in Germany. In 1978 the album Harry Sheppard with the Sydney Jazztet was created in Sydney (with David Glyde, Steve Murphy, Dave Ellis and Willie Qua); in the same year he recorded in New York with Ruby Braff ( Pretties , Sonet , with John Bunch ). Until the early 1990s he played a number of albums under his own name. In the field of jazz, he was involved in 32 recording sessions between 1955 and 1997. He has lived in Houston since 1985.
