The parish church of St. Martin

Weihmörting is a district of the Rotthalmünster market in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau . Until 1978 it formed an independent municipality.

location

The church village Weihmörting is located in the Rottal , about three kilometers north of Rotthalmünster.

history

One of the oldest churches in the area stood here as early as the 8th century. The parish Weihmörting is an old secular parish, documented as early as 1140. The right of presentation and patronage initially belonged to the bishops of Regensburg . In 1194 it came to the Mondsee Monastery . Shortly afterwards, the Counts of Ortenburg received the right of patronage, before Count Palatine Rapoto II finally renounced it in 1215 in favor of the Mondsee Monastery. In 1605 Abbot Christoph von Mondsee gave the right of patronage and presentation to the Cathedral Chapter of Passau .

The former noble residence Weihmörting probably got its name from a noble named Wichmar. However, it cannot be ruled out that the name originally “consecrated to St. Martin “meant. The nobles of Wimertingen (also Wichmarting , Wihenmertingen , Weichmertingen , Wuidmarting , Wihemartingen and Wichmartingen ) are particularly common in documents from the Asbach , Vornbach , Niederaltaich and Reichenbach monasteries from the 12th century. There is nothing left of her castle. The sex was probably wiped out in 1192 by the ortenburgische / bogensche feud.

Since no other owners of the Hofmark are known, it can be assumed that the property fell to the Wittelsbachers , who had no interest in the continued existence of the noble estate. These had bought the Palatinate's property in its entirety and may have ignored the weak rights of the Mondsee Monastery.

From the chairmanship of Weihmörting in the Karpfham district, the Weihmörting tax district emerged in 1811, and from it the Weihmörting community with 24 districts. It was initially subject to the Griesbach Regional Court and from 1838 to the newly formed Rotthalmünster Regional Court. As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , the municipality Weihmörting, which belonged to the district of Griesbach im Rottal , was incorporated into the Rotthalmünster market in 1978.

Attractions

  • Parish Church of St. Martin . Its older parts (choir, nave, nave and tower) probably date from the 14th century, as mainly the choir vaults and stylistic features of the tower suggest. The vault of the central nave is late Gothic and, like the sixth floor of the tower, was probably built in the late 15th or early 16th century. In 1852 the church was lengthened and two side aisles were added. In 1861 the tower was raised again.
