Robert Tobler (writer)

Robert Tobler (born September 25, 1937 in Zurich ; † March 28, 2019 there ) was a Swiss writer .

biography

Robert Tobler grew up in Zurich, attended the Protestant teachers' seminar, and worked for three years as a high school teacher in Uster and Zurich. He studied music and theology (Zurich Music Academy and Conservatory, University of Basel and Zurich), was organist in Fehraltorf for seven years and became pastor in Emmenbrücke , youth pastor in Zug and, in 1978, parish pastor in Knonau .

In 1971 Robert Tobler founded the working group "New Singing in the Church" with Markus Jenny and Edwin Nievergelt , which in 1980 published the ecumenical youth hymn book "Kumbaya". Three songs based on texts by his wife Eva Zeltner date from this period. They appeared in various hymn books.

In 1978 Tobler received the 2nd prize for the youth radio play Chönd Si mir saw, wo de Liebgott isch? and became a freelancer at Radio DRS , later also at the Sender Freies Berlin , since 2003 Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB). In 1982 he was elected to the primary school teacher seminar in the canton of Zurich (today the University of Education), where he taught didactics of biblical history and life studies as well as basic religious issues. In 1995 he became a professor and in 2000 he retired.

In parallel to his teaching activities, he wrote children's books, novels for young people, poems and radio plays. He lived in Zurich and Berlin.
