Robert Varnhagen

Robert Varnhagen (born May 14, 1818 in Arolsen ; † December 31, 1903 there ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life

Varnhagen was the son of the Justice Council Dr. jur. Friedrich Varnhagen and his wife Juliane Luise Friederike née Kröger. He married Auguste Schmitz on May 18, 1857 in Lippstadt. On July 22, 1869 he married Hedwig Kneuper in Arolsen. The son Hermann Varnhagen came from the first marriage, the second marriage resulted in the son Oskar Varnhagen .

After attending grammar school in Korbach, Varnhagen studied law and camera studies in Jena and Tübingen . During his studies in 1840 he became a member of the Jena fraternity , the fraternity on the Fürstenkeller and the fraternity Germania Tübingen . He was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD . From 1848 to 1850 he was the editor of the Waldeckschen Volksbote . He was a member of the National Liberal Party in the Landtag (Waldeck-Pyrmont) from 1848 to 1851 and from 1892 to 1894 , including several years as President of the Landtag . In 1852 he was the third responsible member of the government and head of the finance department in the Winterberg cabinet , from 1853 to 1867 he was also responsible for the domain and forestry department. In 1868 he became director of the Princely Waldeck Dominial Administration and in 1873 he was also consistorial director in Arolsen. In 1887 he retired. From 1891 to 1897 he was a member of the regional synod of the Evangelical Church of the Principality of Waldeck and Pyrmont.
