Robert Wiedersheim
Robert Ernst Eduard Wiedersheim (born April 21, 1848 in Nürtingen , † July 12, 1923 in Schachen ) was a German comparative anatomist working in the fields of zoology and anthropology .
Life
His father was Eduard Friedrich Wiedersheim (1819–1882). His mother, Bertha Friederike Wiedersheim (1825–1848), née Otto, died a few days after his birth. Robert Wiedersheim was then raised in the house of his grandfather, the factory owner Immanuel Friedrich Otto (1791–1875) in Nürtingen. He completed his school days in Nürtingen on the one hand and in Kirchheim unter Teck on the other, then followed the high school in Stuttgart, where he could live with an uncle.
From 1868 he studied natural sciences for one semester in Lausanne , then medicine from 1868 to 1870 in Tübingen with Franz von Leydig , in 1871 with the anatomist Carl Hasse in Würzburg , and in 1872 in Freiburg with Albert Schinzinger . With his dissertation prepared by Hasse on the finer structural relationships of the glands in the gizzards of birds he received his doctorate and in 1872 he passed his state examination with Adolf Kussmaul in Freiburg, whereupon he returned to Würzburg in the same year as Kölliker's assistant and there in 1873 as successor to Hasse's prosector the anatomy was. During his studies in 1868 he became a member of the Germania Tübingen fraternity .
In 1873 he married Tilla Gruber, a daughter of the Lindau businessman Friedrich Gruber . After his nostrification he worked from 1876 as a prosector at the anatomical institute of the University of Freiburg with Alexander Ecker in Freiburg , where he was appointed associate professor the following year. In 1883 he succeeded Ecker as a full professor and director of the anatomical and comparative anatomical institute. In 1918 he retired.
In 1894, Wiedersheim was appointed Hofrat and in 1902 a Privy Councilor. In 1910 he was appointed privy councilor .
Honors
In 1879 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . From 1909 he was an extraordinary member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences .
