Robert Woodhouse

Robert Woodhouse (born April 28, 1773 in Norwich , England , † December 28, 1827 in Cambridge ) was a British professor of mathematics.

Woodhouse attended school in North Walsham , from 1790 to Caius College , Cambridge . Later he became a professor of mathematics, astronomy and experimental philosophy. In 1802 he became a member of the Royal Society . From 1820 to 1822 he was Lucasischer Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge.

Woodhouse was interested in the theoretical foundations of analysis , the notation of differential calculus , the nature of imaginary numbers, and similar topics. He wrote some works on analysis and attacked "continental" mathematics there.
