Robert Wright Campbell
Robert Wright Campbell (born June 9, 1927 in Newark , New Jersey , † September 21, 2000 in Monterey ) was an American screenwriter , writer and occasionally appeared as an actor . His name is usually abbreviated to R. Wright Campbell .
Life
Campbell studied painting at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and served in the United States Army during the Korean War . After his release, he asked his brother, the actor William Campbell , what he earned and then decided to move to Hollywood .
Campbell has written for various television series, including The Loretta Young Show and Warner Bros. ' Maverick and Bronco . His brother also introduced him to Roger Corman , for whom he wrote the scripts for Five Revolvers Go West (1955), Teenage Cave Man (1958) and Satanas - The Castle of the Bloody Beast (1964). In 1958 , he received an Oscar nomination for The Man with 1000 Faces , a documentary about the career of Lon Chaney senior . He was nominated for this together with Ivan Goff , Ben Roberts and Ralph Wheelwright , who were also involved in the development of the script.
Campbell stopped scripting in the late 1960s and turned to writing novels. He settled in Carmel , California . His first novel was The Spy Who Sat and Waited . He created the La-La Land series of novels, starring a hero named Jack Whistler, and a series of novels about Jack Flannery that won an Edgar Allan Poe Award and an Anthony Award . The two novels Stiche im Dunkeln (1983) and Enterprise Oscar (1983) were published in German by Bastei Lübbe . Trust the courage of your pigeon was published by Fischer Taschenbuchverlag in 1980 .
