Robert Wuku

Robert Wuku OCist (born October 31, 1853 in Baden , Lower Austria ; † August 27, 1911 in Wurmbrand near Groß Gerungs , Lower Austria) is an Austrian clergyman , theologian and author .

Life

Robert Wuku was born on October 31, 1853 in the Lower Austrian city of Baden. He completed his school education with the Matura in Wiener Neustadt - before that he had also attended grammar school in his native city of Baden - and joined the Cistercian monastery in Zwettl in 1872 . On August 5, 1877, he was ordained a priest in the Zwettl collegiate church . In February 1878 Wuku - at that time a monastery priest in Zwettl - was sent to Waldenstein as an assistant priest . A few days before that, the abbot of Zwettl Abbey, Anselm Brawenz , died at the age of 70.

In 1881 Wuku was appointed to teach the subject of the Old Testament at the University of Vienna . In the years 1882 to 1896 he also taught in this area at Heiligenkreuz Abbey and, after having passed the parish bankruptcy examination on September 22nd and 23rd, 1896 , which authorized him to run a parish, he acted as pastor in Wurmbrand near Groß Gerungs . Until then, he briefly appeared as the provisional parish administrator of Wurmbrand. As pastor of Wurmbrand, he replaced Anselm Weninger, at whose side Wuku was ordained a priest on August 5, 1877 and who returned to the monastery. In the community of Wurmbrand, Wuku was also an honorary member of the volunteer fire brigade and an honorary citizen of the community. He was also a member of the Baden section of the Austrian Tourist Club .

With his small script Mellifluus , written in 1906, he paid homage to St. Bernhard in Arabic script. Wuku had started studying the oriental languages ​​around the same time as he had received the teaching assignment for the Old Testament at the University of Vienna - around the year 1881 after four years of service in pastoral care. Not until March 29, 1909 - now 55 years old - Wuku received his doctorate from the University of Vienna with a theological dissertation entitled Breviarum vitae Sancti Bernardi ratione speciali habito epistolarum hujus sancti as a doctor of theology .

Just three years later, Wuku died in Wurmbrand on August 27, 1911 at the age of 58. At the beginning of September 1911 Wuku was buried in the presence of 35 clergymen, a few other public figures and numerous mourners. The conduct was led by Stephan Rössler , who had been Abbot of Zwettl since 1876.
