Roberto Angleró

Roberto Angleró Pepín (born September 12, 1929 in Fajardo , † April 28, 2018 in Kissimmee ) was a Puerto Rican salsa composer, singer and band leader.

Angleró was sent to New York by his father to study law or medicine. He took drum lessons there and saw Machito and his Afro-Cubans . After military service in San Antonio, he returned to Puerto Rico and sang in several groups until he finally became a member of Lito Peñas Orquesta Panamericana . Peña and Héctor Urdaneta supported him in composing his first songs such as ¿Qué le pasa a mi chamaca? , El pisotón and La Pared .

He had his first international success with the song La pared , which was recorded in different versions by Eladio Peguero , Felipe Pirela , Roberto Ledesma , Xiomara Alfaro and Daniel Santos , among others . In 1970 he founded his own orchestra with which he produced eight albums:

Over the years Angleró has composed for numerous Latin American musicians, including Mario Ortíz , Tommy Olivencia , Roberto Roena , Rafael Cortijo , Johnny López , Willie Rosario , Bobby Valentín , Rafi Val , Ricardo Ray and Bobby Cruz , Paquito Guzmán , Marvin Santiago , Nacho Sanabria , Edgard Nevárez , Ismael Quintana , Marvin Santiago, Pete Rodríguez , Raphy Leavitt , Alex D 'Castro , Domingo Quiñones , Edgardo Morales , Frankie Hernández , Gilberto Santa Rosa , Poncho Sánchez , Yolanda Rivera and José Lugo . On National Salsa Day 2005, Puerto Rico paid homage to Angleró, who had shaped this music for six decades.
