Roberto Darvin , actually Roberto Darwin Barrientos Cóppola , (born January 28, 1942 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan guitarist and singer .

Darvin can fall back on a guitar and vocal training. In the earlier phase of his career he turned more towards the Latin American Nueva canción , but in his more recent works he deals more with Uruguayan folklore using candombe and milonga . One of his most successful songs is "Soy latinoamericano".

In 1970 he took part in the Primer Festival Mundial de la Canción Latina in Mexico, where he also settled from 1970 to 1975. In 1974 he was invited to the Siete Días con el Pueblo festival in the Dominican Republic. In 1975 he moved to Madrid for three years before living in Paris for another seven years. Darvin was given the honor of being the third foreigner , alongside Gilbert Becaud and Joan Báez, to perform at the 9th Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico. In 1985 he finally returned to Uruguay, where he lives in El Pinar . During his career, he toured both Latin America and Europe. In Germany he also founded the group Arrabal, which consists of German, Spanish and Ecuadorian musicians . His most recent album was released in 2009 on the Ayuí label and is called "Vamos bien". At Graffiti 2010 it was named "Mejor Álbum de Folclore", the best folklore album.

In the course of his career he worked with Hugo Fattoruso , Toto Méndez , Edú "Pitufo" Lombardo , Quique Cano , Benjamín Medina and Ramón Regueira , among others . There are interpretations of his songs by artists such as Celia Cruz , Adriana Varela , María Dolores Pradera , Washington Carrasco y Cristina Fernández and Jaime Roos .
