Roberto Niederer

Roberto Niederer (born February 9, 1928 in Naples , † December 1, 1988 in Catanzaro ( Calabria ); resident in Wolfhalden ) was a Swiss entrepreneur , glass blower and artist . He headed the Glasi Hergiswil .

Life

Roberto Niederer was born as a Swiss abroad in Naples as the son of the civil servant Robert Niederer and Maria Niederer, née Colicchia. In 1937 he moved from Italy to St. Gallen . From 1939 he lived in Zurich and married Rosemarie Auer in 1952.

Niederer completed an apprenticeship as an apparatus glass blower in 1943 . From 1953 he worked as a freelance glassblower in Zurich. He founded various glassworks in Italy. In 1972 Niederer co-organized the exhibition Glass Today at the Museum Bellerive in Zurich.

Niederer took over the management of the glassworks in Hergiswil in 1976 and led the traditional company with various innovations, such as the Swiss Glass Campaign out of the crisis. He brought new creations to the glass and lamp production and was active as a versatile glass artist. One of his works is the cast glass window in the church in Marthalen . Niederer received several national and international awards, such as the Johann Melchior Wyrsch Prize in 1984 . Shortly before his death in 1988, his son Robert Niederer took over the management of the Glasi.
