Roberto Ventura
Roberto Ventura (* February 1. 1957 in Rio de Janeiro ; † 14. August 2002 ) was a Brazilian literary critic and is considered one of the most important Euclides da Cunha - biographers .
Ventura received his doctorate from the Universities of Bochum and São Paulo , completed his habilitation in São Paulo in 1999 and worked there as a professor until his death.
His most important (most cited) work is Estilo tropical: história cultural e polêmicas literárias no Brasil, 1870–1914 from 1991; he borrowed the title from a work by the Brazilian writer Araripe Júnior , with whom he dealt intensively in his work.
In 2002 he died in a car accident . In 2003 the Companhia das Letras posthumously published the fragments of his book project Euclides da Cunha - uma Biografia .
