Robin Noel Perutz (born December 27, 1949 in Cambridge ) is a British chemist who works in the fields of organometallic chemistry , catalysis and photochemistry .

Life

Robin. N. Perutz was born in Cambridge in 1949 , the son of Max F. Perutz, a Nobel Prize winner in chemistry . He studied chemistry at the University of Cambridge until 1971 . For obtaining the Ph.D. he continued his studies at Cambridge and Newcastle University and did research on the structure of metal carbonyl fragments . In 1974 he went to Mülheim, Ruhr as a postdoc . He then worked in Edinburgh and Oxford , in 1983 he moved to the University of York , where he became a professor in 1991. From 2007 to 2010 he was chairman of the Dalton Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry .

Perutz worked on many aspects of reaction mechanisms, photochemistry, spectroscopy and the synthesis of organotransition metal and metal hydride complexes . Most recently he has devoted himself specifically to supramolecular photochemistry and the resulting technical possibilities for storing solar energy in the form of chemical energy as a future energy source.

In 2005 he received the Nyholm Prize for Inorganic Chemistry of the Royal Society of Chemistry, named after Ronald Nyholm . In 2010 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society . In 2015 he was accepted as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science .
