Robin Ridington

Robin Ridington (born November 1, 1939 in Westminster , Maryland , United States ) is a North American anthropologist and ethnologist , professor emeritus from the University of British Columbia and a specialist in the oral history of the First Nations .

Life

Robin Ridington was born in Westminster, Maryland in 1939. He graduated from Westminster High School in 1957 and received his Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Swarthmore College in 1962, his Ph.D. he graduated from Harvard University in 1968.

For many years Ridington has been researching oral history, i.e. the oral transmission of rites and myths by Canadian Indians of the First Nation, in particular the Dunne-za , the Iroquois and the Omaha , since 1964, using extensive audio and video documentation since 1964 Mrs. Jillian Ridington was supported, with whom he brought out much of his work. From 1967 on, Robin Ridington was Professor of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. He has been retired since 1995, and continues to research and write in his fields.

1989 his work won Trail to Heaven: Knowledge and Narrative in a Northern Native community to the BC Book Prizes belonging Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize .

Ridington has lived with his wife for decades on Galiano Island , British Columbia, and has long trekking tours and the writing of sonnets as a hobby .
