action

In September 1982 the teenagers Hubertus and Sebastian turn against their fathers by turning to the 50s, rockabilly, pomade and southern flags on the bonnet as a symbol of freedom and rebellion. The punk girl Debbie, who actually lives in Ireland, also belongs to the clique and spends the summer with her father.

Hubertus is the singer in the newly founded band The Rebels . The band's first gig goes completely wrong, however, because Hubertus got the date wrong and the guys show up at the location one day too late. When the respected rockabilly band Black Jets is looking for an opening act for their Germany tour, Sebastian takes on the role of sound engineer to mix a demo band for the application, as his hobby - recording bird songs - has the appropriate technology. During one of his excursions, he discovered an old factory building that the band will use as a rehearsal room in the future.

Hubertus' strict father has no understanding of his son's musical career aspirations and wants his son to have a military career. When Hubertus got himself tattooed and his father prevented the band from performing for the first time, the already tense situation escalated further and a fight broke out between father and son. Sebastian also has problems with his drug and alcohol addicted father. He actually left the family, does not pay maintenance, but appears again and again with the family at irregular intervals. He seduces Sebastian's mother to drink and stops little Laura, Sebastian's sister, from going to school and beats her.

Finally Hubertus, Sebastian and Laura make the decision to leave their families and run away. They start the journey with the stolen car from Hubertus' father. After a phone call with Debbie at a gas station, Hubertus finally thinks about it and drives back to her. Hubertus' father turns up there, however, and brings his son back on the grounds that his mother wanted to kill herself. Hubertus freaks out at home when he notices that his father lied to him and threatens him with a gun. Hubertus takes him by surprise and locks him in the attic. Hubertus sets a fire, takes refuge on the roof and jumps to his death in front of his parents.

At the funeral of his friend, Sebastian freaks out and pushes Hubertus' father into the open grave. He throws his own father, who is sleeping off a frenzy, out of the apartment. Sebastian takes over the position of singer in the band, and they appear for Hubertus at the audition date for the Black Jets, which is so important for this .
