Rockot (also Rokot ; Russian Рокот , translated "the roar", "roar", GRAY index 14A05) is a Russian launch vehicle of the light class that can bring a payload of 1,950 kg into a 200 km high earth orbit with 63 ° inclination.

The total mass of the Rockot is 107 tons, the length 29 m, the maximum diameter 2.5 m. The rocket consists of three stages, the lower two stages are based on the Soviet ICBM UR-100N (SS-19), the third stage is of the Briz-KM type . All stages use 1,1-dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) as the fuel and dinitrogen tetroxide as the oxidizer. Another launch vehicle based on the SS-19 is the Strela . The start-up costs of a commercial Rockot be an estimated 13 to 15 million US dollars .

The first suborbital test took place on November 20, 1990 in Baikonur . Further launches took place from there in the early 1990s, with the Rockot being shot down from a silo . On December 26, 1994, the first satellite was brought into orbit with the Rockot. Later (commercial) launches took place on May 16, 2000 from Plesezk , from a launch pad of the Kosmos rocket specially converted for the Rockot . Silo launch systems for the SS-19 are also available in the Russian space center Swobodny , which can be used with modifications for the Rockot rocket if necessary. The last Rockot for the time being started on December 26, 2019.

The Rockot control system was built in Ukraine and is no longer available due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine (escalation from 2014). Russia is therefore developing the successor model Rockot-2 , in which Ukrainian components are no longer used. The rocket will also receive a new version of the Bris upper stage called Bris-2 .

The Rockot was previously marketed by Eurockot Launch Services GmbH. It is a Bremen-based joint venture between Astrium (51%) and GKNPZ Khrunichev (49%).
