The Rocky River is a tributary of Lake Erie on its south bank in the northern US state of Ohio . The Rocky River drains together with its two source rivers 761 km² in the south predominantly agricultural, in the middle and in the north urbanized area, which lies in the catchment area of the Erieee. It arises from the confluence of the West Branch Rocky River and East Branch Rocky River near the town of North Olmsted in Cuyahoga County , then flows further north and flows into Lake Erie between the two cities of Lakewood and Rocky River .

The West Branch Rocky River rises south of the city of Medina in Medina County ( 41 ° 5 ′ 52 ″  N , 81 ° 51 ′ 26 ″  W ) at an altitude of 370 m.

The East Branch Rocky River arises south of the city of Cleveland , about 3 km north of the village of North Royalton in Cuyahoga County ( 41 ° 19 ′ 41 ″  N , 81 ° 43 ′ 29 ″  W ) at an altitude of 375 m.

In the Cleveland Metroparks , the bed of the Rocky River and its headwaters is characterized by V-shaped washed-out slate rocks, densely forested with willows , plane trees and poplars .
