Rod Lurie (born May 15, 1962 in Israel ) is an American film and television director , screenwriter , film producer and former film critic .

Life

Rod Lurie is the son of cartoonist Ranan Lurie . In 1968 he moved with his parents to the United States , where he grew up in Greenwich and Honolulu . In 1984 he graduated from the United States Military Academy , then served in the US Army .

Lurie wrote film reviews for the New York Daily News and various magazines; as a director he made his debut with the short film 4 Second Delay . For this film he won the Canyonlands Film Festival Award , the Crested Butte Reel Fest Gold Award and the Jury Special Prize of the Deauville Film Festival .

He is best known as the director of the film Character Assassination - Beyond Morality from 2000, for which he also wrote the screenplay. He worked with Robert Redford on the film The Last Fortress (2001) . He was the creator and showrunner of the television series Line of Fire (2003) and Welcome, Mrs. President (2005). Both were discontinued after the first season. Welcome, Mrs. President Lurie originally designed as a sequel to Character Assassination - Beyond Morality . After their lead actress Joan Allen canceled, he gave the president a new character.

Lurie lives in Pasadena , California . He is married and has two children.
