The Kronach – Nordhalben railway was a branch line in Bavaria . It ran from Kronach via Steinwiesen to Nordhalben . The originally 24.88 kilometer long route is also known as the Rodachtalbahn , as it follows the valley of the Rodach tributary of the Main .

history

The branch line was opened on July 26, 1900. Passenger traffic was stopped on May 30, 1976, freight trains rolled to Nordhalben until September 25, 1994. Until August 1, 2002, the Loewe AG plant was still connected to the rail network via the route, when all traffic was idle. After the infrastructure between Kronach and Steinwiesen was shut down, the tracks on this section were dismantled in 2005. A cycle path has been laid out on most of the route , and the bridges over the Rodach have also been renovated or rebuilt.

On the remaining eleven kilometers long section between Steinwiesen and the terminus Nordhalben, Eisenbahnfreunde Rodachtalbahn e. V. has been running a museum train since September 15, 2007 . The train, which is also known as the Red Brummer , consists of the Uerdingen rail bus 798 731 with the control car 998 744. Operating days are Sundays and holidays in summer and autumn as well as various trips on special holidays.

The Dürrenwaid train station was put back into operation in 2008. He is just four kilometers from the same district of the municipality Geroldsgruen away and still has the original and in the monument list of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation recorded reception building . The train station is in the district of Kronach, the place in the district of Hof.

At the Nordhalben train station there are two dining cars with a simple restaurant.
