Rodney Orpheus (born July 8, 1960 , William Rodney Campbell , in Moneymore ) is a Northern Irish musician, record producer, author and thelemite . He is a co-founder of the music group The Cassandra Complex .

Early life

Orpheus attended the Rainey Endowed School in Magherafelt on a scholarship . During the punk rock movement of the late 1970s, he became interested in music and directed one of Ireland's first experimental punk bands , The Spare Mentals. In 1980 he moved to Leeds , England, where he founded the Cassandra Complex with Paul Dillon in 1984 . After the release of The Cassandra Complex's first records, Orpheus toured Europe for several years. During his stay in Aachen , Germany, he came into contact with the Ordo Templi Orientis . Orpheus had studied the works of Aleister Crowley and other occult writers since his youth and had previously founded and published the British occult newspaper Pagan News with the writer Phil Hine . During his stay in Aachen he wrote the book Abrahadabra: A Beginners Guide to Thelemic Magick, which was published by Looking Glass Press in Sweden and later reprinted by Weiser Books. The Tree of Light Journal said it was "one of the very few competent and readable introductory texts to thelemic magic".

Hamburg

Orpheus moved to Hamburg in 1990 , where he founded the Makhashanah Lodge, OTO. During this time he also formed the band Sun God, based on the Santería initiative that he received from Baba Raul Canizares on a visit to New York and inspired by the work of the voodoo artist Sallie Ann Glassman. He founded a recording studio in which The Cassandra Complex recorded their next albums and produced and remixed several records for other German alternative artists, including Die Krupps and Girls Under Glass . Orpheus played a role in the German vampire film Kiss My Blood, and toured with The Sisters of Mercy .

los Angeles

Orpheus had been using Steinberg Media Technologies' software for some time in the studio and shortly after moving to Hamburg he joined the company to take over the Internet Services division. He moved to Los Angeles in 1999 to design one of the first Web 2.0 community sites, Cubase.net. Orpheus is a member of the US Grand Lodge OTO Supreme Grand Council. During this time he wrote books and music. His horror short story "Gothic Blood Dream" and his poem "Poison Butterflies" were published in 2002 in the anthology Gothic II.

Return to Great Britain

In Los Angeles, Orpheus worked in the movie sound industry and became an advocate for surround sound . This led him to move to Henley-on-Thames in 2004 and become Business Development Manager for the surround record label DTS Entertainment. During this time he produced the surround albums Planet Earth for LTJ Bukem and A Gigantic Globular Burst of Anti-Static for The Future Sound of London.

In 2007 he reformed the original cast of The Cassandra Complex.

Orpheus was named Deputy National Grandmaster of the British Grand Lodge OTO on the 2009 Spring Equinox and appeared in August 2011 with Thelemanow.

In May 2009 he appeared on Kerrang Radio with radio host Nick Margerrison. There he was asked Orpheus what would happen if demons were called according to Crowley rituals, to which Orpheus said: "If demons came off the radio, I would be very surprised if they came out anywhere, they would get out of people's minds come out".

Orpheus wrote additions to the tabletop game Car Wars by Steve Jackson Games . During a long recovery from surgery in 2001, he began developing modules for the computer game Neverwinter Nights , eventually operating an online server called The Hidden Tradition, and winning a Neverwinter Vault Hall of Fame Award, prompting him to do so in 2008 until 2010 worked as a lecturer in game design at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College .

His book, Grimoire of Aleister Crowley, was published by Abrahadabra Press in August 2011. It has been described by editor Colin Campbell as "a truly extraordinary modern grimoire".

In August 2012 Rodney led the Sex & Magick Workshop in Dublin , which dealt with the history of sex magic, its influences from Eastern Tantric teachings and its modern practice.

From 2014 to 2016, Orpheus was Vice President of WholeWorldBand, an iOS application that enables musicians and fans to collaborate over the Internet.
