Rodolfo Amoedo (born December 11, 1857 in Salvador da Bahia , Brazil , † May 31, 1941 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian painter.

Life

Amoedo came to the Liceu Imperial de Artes at the age of 16 and became a student of Victor Meirelles , Costa Miranda and Sousa Lobo . On the occasion of the annual exhibition of the Academia Imperial de Belas Artes , some works by Amoedo were awarded. So he prevailed against Henrique Bernardelli with the "O sacrifício de Abel" created in 1878 . This also included a travel grant, with the help of which he traveled to Paris in May 1879 the following year .

There he became a student at the Académie Julian with Gustave Boulanger and Jules-Joseph Lefebvre in the same year . He later switched to the École des Beaux-Arts with the support of his teachers and was a. a. Taught by Paul Baudry , Alexandre Cabanel and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes . With their advocacy, he was able to participate in the major exhibitions of the Salon de Paris in 1882, 1883 and 1884 .

In 1888 Amoedo returned to Brazil and settled in Rio de Janeiro. He founded a studio there and was also entrusted with a teaching position at the art academy, the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes .

At the age of almost 84, Rodolfo Amoedo died on May 31, 1941 in Rio de Janeiro, where he found his final resting place.
