Rogatka Warszawska (translated Warsaw Customs House ) is a listed building in Radom in the Masovian Voivodeship in Poland . The former customs house was built in 1834 and has served as an art gallery since 1991 .

The building is located in the north-west of the city center at ulica Malczewskiego 20.

history

The first customs posts were located near the city gates of Miasto Kazimierz ( Kasimir's town) . As the city continued to grow, these were relocated. A wooden customs house had stood on the road to Warsaw since 1820 and a new city gate was built there four years later. Four more gates on the city limits were built at the same time on the roads to Kozienice and Lublin as well as the old Krakauer Straße.

In place of the wooden customs house, Stefan Baliński built the current building in 1834. After the fees were lifted, it housed the homeless for some time . After various functions, in the 1950s it became the morgue of the neighboring St. Casimir Hospital (today Hotel Aviator ). Between 1971 and 1972 the building was extensively renovated and then used as a tourist information office.

It has been a listed building since 1956 and was entered in the voivodeship's national register of monuments under number 314.

Since 1991, the former customs house has housed the Galeria Rogatka of the Art Faculty of the Radom University (formerly Politechnika Radomska ). The German artists Hans Both , Jo Niemeyer and Yoshimi Hashimoto exhibited their works there. - The building has been under renovation since September 2019.

Another customs house, the Rogatka Lubelska from 1840, was converted into a public bath in the 1920s and has served as the “Łaźnia” cultural center since 1987 .
