Hans Both
Hans Both (born April 16, 1935 in Lautern ) is a German engineer and folk artist ( painter , graphic artist and artisan ).
Life
After moving from East Prussia, Both came to Calbe (Saale) in 1948 . He worked as a farm worker, caught up with school, began studying precision mechanics at a technical college and became a worker at the VEB tractor factory in Schönebeck (Elbe) . After studying to become an engineer for agricultural machinery, he worked as a designer at the Schönebeck tractor factory .
In 1965 Both joined the tractor factory's drawing circle. Such circles for artistically active or writing workers were set up in many large GDR companies as part of the Bitterfelder Weg . Both attended the special school for fine arts at the Magdeburg Culture Academy, founded in 1959, and became a member of the support group for painting-graphics-sculpture at the district cabinet for cultural work in Magdeburg. In 1975 he took over the leadership of the circle for artistic folk creation in the tractor factory. Some regionally known hobby artists started their way in the Bothschen circle.
In 1990, Both joined the Wittingen cultural association (Lower Saxony), regularly took part in the international artist symposia of the workshop weeks and since then has maintained an intensive exchange of experiences with foreign artists. The impressions of his travels, some of which he undertook together with artist colleagues, also found their way into his oeuvre. Both can look back on a large number of exhibitions and participations in Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Saxony, but also Linz, Antwerp and Marseille. He is listed in the picture atlas art in the GDR funded by the Ministry of Education , one of his works is in the art archive in Beeskow . His artistic preference is lithography .
Hans Both lives in Calbe (Saale) . He is married to the teacher Ulrike Both.
Honors
At the workers 'festival in the GDR , the workers' artist was awarded a number of gold medals by the Ministry of Culture .
In 2005, Both was awarded the Wilhelm Loewe Prize of the city of Calbe (Saale) as “chronicler of the city with pencil and sketch pad” . In January 2013 he was honored with an entry in the city's book of honor. He received the award for his life's work, as he has been enriching cultural life in Calbe and the surrounding area for almost 40 years.
