Roger Erb (born July 1, 1961 in Gießen ) is a German physics teacher and university professor .

Life

From 1980 to 1986, Erb studied physics and German studies for teaching at grammar schools at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . This was followed by four years of school service before he became a research assistant at the University of Kassel in the physics department in 1990 . In 1994 he received his doctorate there as Dr. rer. nat. with the dissertation The Fermat Principle as a basis for understanding optics . He also completed his habilitation in Kassel in the field of didactics of physics with the habilitation thesis The subject of 'Optical imaging' in physics lessons and was then appointed as a private lecturer .

After another two years in the teaching profession Erb took a professorship at the University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd on Physics and Physics Education. From 2006 to 2010 he was also a member of the advisory board of the Center for Teacher Training at the University of Ulm , from 2008 to 2009 he was also a member of the Georg Kerschensteiner Prize Committee of the German Physical Society and from 2010 to 2015 head of the Department of Physics Didactics .

2010 Erb took a reputation as professor of Physics Education at the Goethe University in Frankfurt on, from 2011 to 2018, he was also director of the Academy for Educational Research and Teacher Education .

From 2014 to 2018 he was dean of studies in the physics department at the Goethe University in Frankfurt.

Research priorities

The main research areas of Erbs include the learning processes in physics lessons as well as experimentation in physics lessons, in particular investigations into the performance and motivation of students and the further development of optics lessons as part of the light path concept.
