Roger Louis Kaffer (born August 14, 1927 in Joliet , Illinois ; † May 28, 2009 there ) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Joliet .

Life

Roger Louis Kaffer studied theology at Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago and Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein . He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Joliet by Bishop Joseph Leopold Imesch in 1954 in the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet . He then studied canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and education at DePaul University in Chicago . He received his PhD in administrative science from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake . After an assistant to the vicar general in Joliet, he was a founding member and rector of the Saint Charles Borromeo Semina in Wynnewood , Pennsylvania. He then became principal of Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox , Illinois. He was also Canon of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet.

In 1985 he was named titular bishop of Dusa by Pope John Paul II and appointed auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Joliet in Illinois, USA, a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Chicago . He was ordained bishop on June 26, 1985 by Joseph Leopold Imesch , bishop of the Joliet diocese; Co- consecrators were Raymond James Vonesh , auxiliary bishop in Joliet, and Daniel Leo Ryan , bishop of Springfield, Illinois.

He was chairman of the diocesan synod in Joliet from 1986 to 1989. His age-related resignation was granted in 2002 by John Paul II. Nevertheless he was responsible for the education commission in the diocese. From 1993 until his death he was chaplain to the Knights of Columbus , one of the largest fraternal lay organizations. He supported the Marian pilgrimage movement in Meugorje .
