Roger van Hool

Roger van Hool (born September 27, 1940 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian theater and film actor .

Life

Roger van Hool was born in Antwerp in 1940 and grew up bilingual. He spoke Flemish with his mother and French with his father . To perfect his French, his father sent him to a boarding school in Nivelles for four years . Van Hool actually wanted to be a painter, worked temporarily as a decorator and finally decided to act. As a performer, he was first on stage in Antwerp, but soon moved to Paris .

In 1967 he was in Étienne Périer's film Six Boys and Four Girls for the first time on the screen. In the same year he was in a small, but eponymous role in the comedy film Oscar next to Louis de Funès in front of the camera. In the film drama La Chamade - Herzklopfen (1968) he was then given a leading role on the side of Catherine Deneuve and Michel Piccoli . In 1971 he starred in André Delvaux 's war drama Rendezvous in Bray alongside Anna Karina and Mathieu Carrière . Delvaux also cast van Hool in A Woman Between Dog and Wolf (1979). Van Hool appeared in The Woman Next Door in 1982, directed by François Truffaut , alongside Fanny Ardant and Gérard Depardieu . He played Pierre Curie in the multi-part, televised film biography Marie Curie (1991) . Over the years, however, Van Hool remained primarily connected to the theater and appeared in plays by Bertolt Brecht , Harold Pinter and Tennessee Williams , among others .
