Rokel

The Rokel , also Seli , (formerly Pamoronkoh ) is the largest river in Sierra Leone . Based on the Order of the British Empire , Sierra Leones is also called the "Order of the Rokel".

course

From its source in the Loma Mountains , the Rokel flows 316 kilometers in a southwesterly direction. It flows through the Bumbuna reservoir and the Yiben dam, which is currently being planned . At its mouth, it forms, together with the Bankasoka (Port Loko Creek), a larger estuary and is then called the Sierra Leone River . Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown, is at the entrance to this estuary, about 25 miles downstream from the confluence of the Rokel and Bankasoka.

According to the source, the Rokel-Seli catchment area is specified as 7950 to 8236 square kilometers.

Hydrometry

The flow rate of the Rokel was measured in m³ / s at the Bumbuna Dam in almost half of the catchment area.
