Roland Lang (politician)

Roland Lang (born January 12, 1938 in Steinwendi , † January 6, 2012 in Kaiserslautern ) was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament and local politician of the SPD .

Life

Lang was born in 1938 in the Palatinate town of Steinrechen, grew up as a half-orphan after the death of his father, who died in World War II . After completing his school education, Lang completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, but then obtained his Abitur on a second educational path. He then took a civil engineering degree and then worked in this profession in his own office in Steinwend. In 1972, Lang switched to a vocational school in Kaiserslautern, where he taught until 1987. He ended this activity after his election to the Mainz state parliament .

Lang joined the SPD at the age of 25. From 1964 he represented his party as a member of the Steinwender municipal council, for a time he led the local SPD association. In 1977 he was also elected deputy chairman of the SPD sub-district of Kaiserslautern and for a number of years chairman of the SPD district executive committee. From 1979 to 2004, Lang represented the SPD in the district council of the Kaiserslautern district . In 1987 Roland Lang moved into the Mainz state parliament as a member of parliament. The focus of his work was on domestic politics. In 1991, Lang was re-elected to the state parliament as a direct candidate for the Kaiserslautern-Land constituency, with 52.3% of the first vote. In 1996 he was able to repeat this success again with 45% of the first votes. At the same time, he was elected local mayor of Stein Wollen in 1992. He then determined the fate of his hometown for 12 years until he gave way to his successor in 2004. However, Lang remained a council member.

Act

In addition to his professional and political career, Lang also volunteered at an early stage. Since 1969 he has been the secretary of the workers' death benefit association in Steinwend. After his time as local mayor, he was chairman of SV Steinwendi from 2005. Lang was honored with the Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany on ribbon for his political and voluntary commitment .

Roland Lang died on January 6th, 2012 in the Kaiserslauter West Palatinate Clinic .
