Life

Schaeffer grew up in Baden-Baden and founded the jazz rock band Fashion Pink with some musicians in 1968 , which renamed itself to Brainstorm in 1972 and released two LPs while it was active. After graduating from high school, he studied saxophone and double bass at the Karlsruhe University of Music .

After Brainstorm broke up in 1975, he moved to the band Guru Guru , with whom he played until 1982. With Butze Fischer († 2002) and Gerald Luciano Hartwig, both musicians with Guru Guru from 1979 to 1981 , he then started the music project Dadadogs , with which he traveled to India . Between 1981 and 1985 he learned to play the South Indian instrument Nadaswaram . During this time he also performed together with Embryo , Dissidents , Roman Bunka , Marque Löwenthal , Houssaine Kili , Rüdiger Oppermann , Hakim Ludin , Malamini Jobarteh and Mohammed Mounir .

In the mid-1990s he founded the band Free Winds with Heinrich von Kalnein and Jatinder Thakur , which conducted two tours through India and Sri Lanka . A few years later he rejoined Guru Guru , with whom he still performs today.

At the age of 66, Schaeffer became a father for the fourth time in 2017.
