Roland Stadler (born June 14, 1959 in Zurich ) is a former Swiss tennis player .

Career

Born in Zurich, the tennis player surprisingly reached the final of the Swiss Open in Gstaad in 1986 and failed there in five sets against former world number one Stefan Edberg . On the way to the final, he defeated the top 40 players at the time, Milan Šrejber , Tomáš Šmíd and Emilio Sánchez .

He achieved his best Grand Slam result in 1984 at the French Open , where he reached the third round after victories over Derek Tarr and Loïc Courteau .

Stadler was a fixture in the Swiss Davis Cup team in the 1980s and took part in a total of 22 matches. Of his 38 individual games, he was able to win 20, including 1981 against Ivan Lendl , when he had to give up in the fifth game of the first round encounter between Switzerland and the Czech Republic when the score was 6: 6. In doubles he had a 3-0 record.
