Roland Weigel (born November 13, 1928 ; † unknown) was a German football player. He played in the DS-Oberliga ( GDR Oberliga ), the top division in GDR football , for Vorwärts Leipzig, Vorwärts Berlin and the SC Rotation Leipzig . With Vorwärts Berlin he won the GDR Cup in 1954.

Athletic career

Weigel played before and after the Second World War in Liebertwolkwitz , then a south-eastern suburb of Leipzig . In 1948 he joined the SG Leipzig-Leutzsch , which was converted a little later into the ZSG Industrie Leipzig and from which the BSG Chemie Leipzig emerged in 1950. In the first few years Weigel was only used in a friendly game and a cup game. In the round of 16 for the Saxon soccer cup ZSG Industrie - SG Bautzen West in August 1949, Weigel was one of the Leipzig scorers in a 6-2 victory. It was not until the 1951/52 season that he was accepted into the top division squad of Chemie Leipzig, played eight point games as a right winger until December 1951 and scored five goals.

In the summer of 1951 the sports association Volkspolizei Vorwärts Leipzig was founded as the future top club of the barracked Volkspolizei and incorporated into the DS-Oberliga for the 1951/52 season without any athletic qualifications. After his eighth league game for Chemie Leipzig, Weigel moved to Vorwärts Leipzig, where he played his next league game just 14 days later. At Vorwärts he played most of the games as a center forward, had 20 point games by the end of the season and was the team's top scorer with 14 goals. In the following 1952/53 season, Weigel was a regular at Vorwärts Leipzig from the start. He was used in 22 of 23 league games by the end of March and was by then again the best scorer in Leipzig with nine goals. At the beginning of April 1953 Vorwärts Leipzig was relocated to East Berlin . Weigel played all of the remaining seven point games for Vorwärts Berlin, but only scored two more goals. After the end of the season, the team was determined to be relegated, but achieved immediate promotion in the GDR league . Weigel was used in all 26 league games and was the top scorer in the league with 19 goals. Vorwärts Berlin closed the season with a surprising 2-1 victory over the upper division Motor Zwickau as a cup winner. Weigel had been used as a left winger.

The league season 1954/55 denied Weigel again from the first day of play as a regular in the attack of the Berliners. Of the 13 point games in the first half of the season, he played twelve games and scored six goals. On January 9, 1955, he was also in the 14th championship game in the team of Vorwärts Berlin and scored his seventh goal of the season. Then he was surprisingly delegated to the re-established SC Vorwärts Leipzig . This had taken the place in the GDR league for the disbanded team of SC DHfK Leipzig after the winter break . Weigel played eleven of the remaining 14 matches and scored three goals. When the Leipzig had not managed to stay in the league, the team was transferred to the again newly founded SC Vorwärts of the air forces Cottbus, which competed in the newly introduced third-class II. GDR league .

After Weigel had participated in the transition round from August to December 1955 to align the future seasons with the calendar year in Cottbus, he joined the top division club SC Rotation Leipzig at the beginning of the 1956 season . There he got into trouble at first and was only used twelve times in the 26 point games and only played in seven games from the start. It was not until 1957 that he was able to regain a regular place with 25 championship games. He was able to hold this status until 1962, where he was usually called up as a center forward. During his seven-year commitment at SC Rotation, he came to 130 league games in which he scored 18 goals.

He then returned to the starting point of his career in Liebertwolkwitz, where he ended his football career at BSG Motor in the Leipzig district class (5th league).
