Drew Shindell

Drew T. Shindell is an American climatologist and university professor. He is Professor of Climate Science at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and the American Association for the Advancement of Science .

Shindell has been listed by Thomson Reuters and Clarivate Analytics since 2010 in the list of the most cited scientists , which today comprises around 6,000 entries. As of October 2019, he is named there as one of 183 geoscientists. His H index was 100 in October 2019.

Life

Shindell studied physics at the University of California, Berkeley and graduated in 1988 with a bachelor's degree . In 1995 he also received his PhD in physics from Stony Brook University in New York. He then worked at NASA as a postdoc , associate research scientist and later as a physical scientist at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies . Between 1997 and 2010 he was also a lecturer at Columbia University . In 2014 he was appointed professor of climatology at Duke University.

Act

Shindell's research interests include a. the interactions between the composition of the earth's atmosphere and climate change , the links between climate and air quality , natural types of climate fluctuations, historical climate changes and paleoclimatology as well as the interdisciplinary approach to the influence of emissions .

In addition to his regular research and teaching activities, Shindell et al. a. also contributed to the Fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC . There he was involved as coordinating lead author in the chapter "Anthropogenic and Natural Radiative Forcing" and as an author in three other chapters. He also contributed to the special report 1.5 ° C global warming published in 2018 . Since 2009 he has also been co-editor of the journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics .
