Rolf Bloch
Rolf Alphonse Bloch (born June 24, 1930 in Bern ; died May 27, 2015 there ) was a Swiss entrepreneur and from 1992 to 2000 President of the Swiss Association of Israelites .
Live and act
Rolf Bloch studied law at the University of Bern and received his doctorate in constitutional law in 1954. After internships in London and New York, he joined the family business Chocolats Camille Bloch in Courtelary in 1954 . In 1960 he was appointed director and in 1970 after the death of his father, the company founder Camille Bloch , he became president of the board of directors. He led the company operationally until 1997, until 2005 as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
From 1988 to 1992 Rolf Bloch was a member of the management of the Swiss Association of Israelites and from 1992 to 2000 its president. In 1997 the Federal Council appointed him President of the Swiss Special Fund for the benefit of needy victims of the Holocaust . Rolf Bloch was a member of the Swiss delegation to the London Conference on Nazi Looted Gold in 1997 and was Vice President of the European Council of Jewish Communities in 2000 .
Rolf Bloch was seen as a promoter of the Christian-Jewish dialogue . In 1998 Babson College in Boston awarded him an honorary doctorate , as did the Christian Catholic Faculty of the University of Bern in 2000. In 2001 he received the Fischhof Prize , which was awarded by the Foundation against Racism and Anti-Semitism (GRA) and the Society for Minorities in Switzerland (GMS ) is awarded.
He also chaired the Foundation for Contemporary Jewish History at ETH Zurich, the Simon Rothschild Foundation and the Association of Swiss Friends of YAD VASHEM.
Rolf Bloch married Michèle Levy in 1961 and had two sons and a daughter. Like his father, he is buried in the Jewish cemetery in Bern.
