Rolf Gottel

Rolf Emil Göttel (born February 21, 1944 in Mönchengladbach ) is a former football referee and stadium announcer for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bökelbergstadion .

Göttel has been a member of the Borussia Mönchengladbach club since 1958. In 1959 he passed the referee examination and directed soccer games in the Niederrhein Football Association . In 1965 he was appointed by the Mönchengladbach / Viersen district council as a member of the referee committee, of which he became chairman in 1969. In 1975 the Association Day of the Niederrhein Football Association elected him to its referee committee, from which he resigned as referee chairman of the association at his own request in 2004. In the same year he became an assessor of the referee committee of the West German Football Association . In 1986 the Association Day of the Niederrhein Football Association elected him chairman of the association referee committee. In 1989 the referee committee of the West German Football Association appointed him deputy chairman; He took over the chairmanship from 2001 to 2004. He gave the impetus to set up a teaching staff that should design and coordinate the further training of referees. As deputy chairman of the committee, he was a member of the DFB referee committee from 1989 to 1995 ; from 1989 to 1997 he was a referee observer in the Bundesliga . In 2004 the DFB Bundestag elected Göttel as assessor in referee matters in the DFB Sports Court . Since 2007 he has been a member of the DFB volunteer commission . Since 2010 he has been chairman of the district referee committee in the Mönchengladbach / Viersen district.

From 1987 to 2000 he managed the business of the Mönchengladbach Carnival Association, of which he was a member.

Others

At every home goal of Borussia Mönchengladbach in Borussia-Park the announcement “Goal for Borussia” can be heard in the jingle. It commemorates Göttel's decades of voluntary work as a stadium announcer from 1962 to 1992.

Honors

On March 10, 2009 he was honored for his services in the sporting field, as part of his commitment as a referee, as an assessor of the referee committee and later as chairman of the association referee committee and his various activities at the DFB. The Mayor of Mönchengladbach, Norbert Bude , awarded the Federal Republic of Germany's Cross of Merit on Ribbon in the name of Federal President Horst Koehler in the Abteiberg town hall.
